The European Dream
by Jeremy Rifkin
|
I really enjoyed
Rifkin's The
End of Work ,
even though he missed the outsourcing of high tech jobs, so I decided
to give The European Dream a read. While
I like the ideas Rifkin has for a more sane world, I wonder how likely
it is that I'll live long enough to see the positive outcomes he suggests.
Rifkin contends that the EU is likely to become the model for future
world models -- that the American Dream is gone for most of us. The
European Dream is more society oriented than the highly individualistic
and greed oriented American Dream. |

What's
The Matter With Kansas? How Conservatives Won the Heart of America
by Thomas Frank |
I've
often wondered why people vote against their own self-interest --
how a large group of Americans can vote for someone who so obviously
favors the rich.
Behind the smoke screens of "right to life," "anti-gay,"
and other emotion-packed issues, hide the real motives of the leading
conservatives. |
